RM’s ED-E
RM MechRC introduces ED-E, a fully assembled, programmable humanoid robot. ED-E has been designed to help students engage with and enjoy ICT, and is the perfect partner for teaching physical modelling and control technology to students. Students can easily relate to a humanoid robot and create real life actions using the software and on-screen tools. As well as investigating and adapting a wealth of ready-made movements for ED-E, pupils can be inspired to create their own on-screen actions too...
Having storyboarded a sequence of movements on-screen, pupils can then download them to the robot to see them come alive in 'real' life action! Have a look at the video to see ED-E perform.
ED-E gives a perfect stimulus to learn remote control, computer control, programming and modelling. As well as directly teaching control and modelling, ED-E can be used to support many cross-curricular activities involving, for example biology, physics, maths, dance, and media studies.

Podium
What is Podcasting?
Podcasting lets anybody with a microphone; a computer and an Internet connection publish audio broadcasts that can be listened to by people anywhere in the world. Because the barriers to entry are very low, podcasting is rapidly becoming a popular way for people to share audio broadcasts. Podcasts are free and can be automatically downloaded to portable media players, so they can be listened to whenever it's convenient.
Creation & Scripting Tools
In addition to working individually, group working has been enhanced through Podium's fantastic scripting tool, which allows students to assign parts of their dialogue to different members of the group. For example, if students are recording an extract from Shakespeare as one of their podcasting episodes, they are able to color code the text on screen for different characters, so each person knows when it's their turn to speak and can rehearse prior to recording. Students can create radio shows, record dialogue from plays or simply talk about what they like to do at the weekends, and share this with the rest of the school community via the web.
Editing & Publishing
After recording the podcast, students can play back what they've recorded in sections or in full as well as edit their works by deleting a section of audio, cropping audio, inserting audio and replacing sections of audio. Change volume
Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom
As well as allowing students to display and extend their creativity using audio as a means of expressing themselves, teachers are able to use Podium to regularly communicate with parents through posting school updates on the website. They can also publish lesson guides to help students who may have missed sessions through absence or who simply need reinforcement when completing homework assignments.
What Are Schools Using RM Podium for?
Science projects, book reports, study guides or ANY written piece
Interviews, Reading to Demonstrate Literacy Skills, Plays, Poems, Newsletters, Homework, Instructions
Record Lessons, PTO Committees, Sharing School News, Providing Professional Development
Motivation for students to become engaged in any lesson
A way for English language learners to listen to their own progress as well as their teacher's instruction
